1480. Robert9 BURNHAM (child of Robert, #2960);[1358],[1359] born 1624 at Norwich, Co. Norfolk, England;[1360],[1361],[1362],[1363] married Francis (--?--) (see #1481) 1646 at Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachusetts, British America;[1317],[1364] died at the house of his brother Thomas 13 Jun 1691 at Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachusetts, British America.[735],[1365]

He emigrated on 15 Aug 1635 to British America; aboard the Angel Gabriel, shipwrecked off the coast of Pemiquid, Maine. Robert, his uncle, and two brothers all made it to shore. A chest belonging to the three Burnham brothers, was thrown overboard and lost. The Burnhams traveled to Ipswich, Massachusetts, where they settled for a short period of time.[1366],[1367],[1368],[1369] He lived in 1635 at Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachusetts Bay Colony, British America.[1370],[1371] He lived in 1644 at Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts Bay Colony, British America.[1372] He lived in 1654 at Oyster River Plantation (Durham), Dover Twp., New Hampshire, British America; where the couple purchased 200 acres of land in New Hampshire located in Oyster River, a small settlement in Durham. Soon after, the couple began having children and their family grew. Oyster River was the scene of numerous Indian attacks in the early days of the settlement, including an August 1689 attack that killed Robert Hutchins, the husband of Robert Burnham's daughter, Sarah. The Indians held Sarah captive for a year before she was released. Nearly the entire settlement of Oyster River was destroyed, with 23 settlers killed and another 29 taken captive. A militia from Boston caught up with the Indians a month later, and marched 200 of them to Boston where most were hung and a few sold into slavery. In March 1690, the Indians again attacked Oyster River in what is known as the "Salmon Falls Raid." In that attack, 34 settlers were killed and 54 taken captive. these raids were part of a bigger conflict, the King William War, raging in the colonies between the British and the French-Indian alliance.[1373],[1374] He left a will on 12 Jun 1691; in which he gave to his son Samuel 200 acres of land at "Lampereall" (Lamprey River) and the tools at Chebacco (Ipswich); to his son Jeremiah the marsh at Pitman's at Oyster River and the tools there.[1375]
