5888. John11 WHEELER (child of Dominick, #11776);[135],[135] born 4 Nov 1591 at Salisbury, Co. Wiltshire, England;[144] married Agnes or Ann Yeoman (see #5889), daughter of Godfrey Yeoman, 11 Dec 1611 at St. Edmunds, Salisbury, Co. Wiltshire, England;[290] died 29 Aug 1670 at Newbury, Essex Co., Massachusetts Bay, British America, at age 78.[144]

Children of John11 Wheeler and Agnes or Ann Yeoman (see #5889) were as follows:

  • i. Joseph10 Wheeler;[1472],[1472] married Elizabeth (--?--);[1473] married Sarah Goldstone.[1473]

    "He was made freeman at Concord, Mass., May 13, 1640, where he is frequently referred to as Lieutenant."[1474] Joseph and Mary had two children: Ephraim Wheeler, b. April 14, 1640; d. July 10, 1642; Joseph Wheeler, born Dec. 1, 1641 ; d. July 18, 1642.[1474] Joseph and Sarah had two children: Mary Wheeler, born Sept. 20, 1643; Rebecca Wheeler, born Sept. 6, 1646.[1474] "He was the owner of a large amoimt of property, his house lot containing 20 acres; and in 1668 an additional grant was made to him of 610 acres on the Chelmsford line."[1474]

  • ii. Captain Thomas Wheeler;[1475],[1475] born at England;[1476] married Ruth Wood; where Ruth was daughter of William Wood;[1477] died 10 Dec 1676 at Concord, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British America.[1478]

    Thomas and Ruth had six children: Thomas Wheeler; Alice Wheeler, D. March 17, 1641; Nathaniel Wheeler, D. Jan. 9, 1676/7; Ephraim Wheeler, D. Feb. 9, 1689/90; Joseph Wheeler; and Deliverance Wheeler.[1479] He emigrated circa 1640 to Massachusetts Bay Colony, British America; and was in Concord by 1642.[1480] "This 'gallant and intrepid' Indian fighter was among the most interesting and important characters of our colonial period, and was preeminent among the few pioneers through whose restless daring the frontiers of the Massachusetts Bay Colony were so persistently extended."[1481] In 1675, "His greatest historical prominence was reached during King Philips War in which he took a very active part, receiving wounds of so severe a character that he died the following year."[1482]

  • iii. Timothy Wheeler;[1483],[1483] born circa 1601 at Co. Wiltshire, England;[1484],[1485] married Jane (--?--) at England;[1486] married Mary Brooks; daughter of Captain Thomas Brooks;[1487] died 30 Jul 1687 at Concord, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British America.[1484]

    He emigrated circa 1639 to Concord, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British America.[1488] Timothy and Jane had one child: Sarah Wheeler b. 22 Apr 1640.[1489] "His activity in the general welfare of the colony was continuous, and he took time from his military duties to serve on various town civil coromittees and serve as Representative for eighteen years, being a signer of almost every petition presented in the town^s behalf during his lifetime there... [In] 1646, he was made Ensign of the train band, or organized militia company of foot soldiers, and later he became its Captain and was the head of the military magazine of the town."[1490] Timothy and Mary had three children: Mary Wheeler, b. 3 Oct 1657, d 7 Oct 1660; Elizabeth Wheeler, b. 6 Oct 1661; Rebecca Wheeler, b.c. 1666, prob. d. 23 Sep 1734.[1491] "Being possessed of a good education himself he earnestly desired the youth of Concord to have the advantages of learning, and to be sure of its establishment he made provision by gift to the town in his will under which the first regular school in Concord was established. He was very wealthy for the times, having property in Concord, Watertown, Mystic, Charlestown and Boston, etc., and by his various public gifts showed himself to be a high-minded man of generous instincts."[1492]
